I made these cookies after spending time with friends and sisters who were having babies and I was listening to their stories of being up at night, trying to eat nutritious snacks one-handed, running on empty. Visiting them on maternity leave and walking in with a generic baby gift felt completely wrong. So I baked instead.
I wanted to bring something practical and genuinely nourishing, something they could eat with one hand while feeding the baby with the other, or pacing the hall at 2am trying to get a little one back to sleep. Something that would actually satisfy them, not just sit on the counter looking pretty.
They turned out so good that customers have started hiding them from their husbands.
These lactation cookies are the result of creating something for these ladies and they've become one of the most loved things I make.
What makes them special
Each cookie is slow-baked in small batches, by hand, using the finest ingredients I can source. No shortcuts, no additives, no mass production. Just real, wholesome baking with an infusion of love — because that's the only way I know how to do it.
They're packed with galactagogues, ingredients traditionally known to support a healthy milk supply — including oats, which are nourishing and fibre-rich; almonds for protein and healthy fats to keep hunger at bay; linseed, rich in omega-3 and plant-based goodness; and brewer's yeast, a B-vitamin powerhouse long linked to supporting lactation. Woven through all of that are generous chunks of rich dark chocolate — because nourishing yourself and treating yourself aren't mutually exclusive.
